Gerakan Pesantren Hijau: Edukasi dan Aksi Pengelolaan Sampah Berbasis Ekologi di Pondok Pesantren Al Kautsar

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the environmental awareness and waste management skills of students (santri) at Pondok Pesantren Al Kautsar through an ecology-based approach. The program was initiated in response to the increasing waste accumulation within the pesantren environment due to a lack of understanding of environmentally friendly waste management practices. The implementation used the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, consisting of education, training, and practical recycling activities. The santri were trained to separate organic and inorganic waste, produce compost from kitchen leftovers, and recycle plastic waste into creative products. The results indicated a significant improvement in the students’ environmental awareness and participation. The pesantren now has a simple waste-sorting system and a green garden utilizing compost made by the students themselves. This program serves as a sustainable eco-pesantren model that can be replicated in other Islamic educational institutions to promote ecological awareness and green living.
