Abstract

Parenting is the main foundation in supporting children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth and development. This community service aims to optimize healthy and positive parenting practices through a parenting education program for parents in Lawangan Daya Village. The background to this activity is the continued discovery of inappropriate parenting practices, which are generally influenced by limited access to parenting information and family socio-economic challenges. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes active community participation from the problem identification process to the program evaluation stage. This activity involved 15 mothers and their children, and was supported by local health workers. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in parents' understanding of democratic parenting and basic aspects of child health. In addition, changes in attitudes and positive motivation of parents in implementing more adaptive and responsive parenting patterns were also identified. This program also encouraged the formation of local-based childcare support community initiatives. Thus, participatory and collaborative cross-sector parenting education programs have proven effective as a sustainable solution in strengthening the role of parents in educating and caring for children holistically.
